The top environmental authority within the United Nations system is the United Nations Environment Programme. In addition to assisting in the implementation of
environmental commitments at the national, regional, and international levels, UNEP uses its expertise to strengthen environmental standards and practises. The goal of UNEP is to inspire, enlighten, and enable nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations in order to give leadership and promote collaboration in environmental protection.
